Learning how to blog

This is how I spend my Saturday morning - learning how to blog for the first time. This stuff is second nature to many people.......I'm not one of them!
So, what do you say in a blog? I'm told it's just like writing a diary...umm..?
So here are my current thoughts. I am a novice when it comes to technology. I acknowledge my deficiencies right here, but hey, I'm trying so I guess some credit for that.
Where to begin? Well, our technology activator recently sent through a quote which said " When you know better do better."
He then went on to say,
"We often wait when we don't know what to do because we've seen others do things better. Don't let the accomplishments of others intimidate you. Do the best you can with what you know now. You'll learn more later. You'll learn more from doing. When you learn, then you can do better."
I was both inspired and encouraged by this.
So, back to today...
I am very grateful for my awesome colleague Philippa Isom, who has graciously given up her Saturday morning and is sitting here with me, patiently teaching me how to blog!
So now I have learnt from doing. I can tuck another technology skill under my belt. (Let's hope I can remember how to do it again next time !!:)

  1. Great post!! Better than the teacher! Anyway, if you don't remember for next time I am just down the hallway and when we get you on twitter as well you can tweet me - we will save that for next Saturday though.

  2. Two blogs in one day! What a way to start! You might have to get one of those builders' belts at the rate you are goig!

  3. Ka pai Lyn... our staff have just started blogging too this term and are learning so much each week! Focus on trying one feature for sharing learning at a time. Ours have been discovering photopeach.com and fotobabble to share learning. I have started my own personal blog too! Just try one post per week until it becomes a habit (thats what I'm aiming to do)
    All the best ☆

  6. Well done, I only recently started blogging...not entirely sure about the purpose of it for me. I want to invite discussion on issues so I am not convinced it the best platform for that- I have heard google groups is but haven't tried that yet. Sometimes, only as you try something, do you realise another...all part of the journey- well done for making a start.

  7. Great Lyn! Blessings to you on this journey. I would love to hear what you are doing in your classroom and whatever else you have always wanted to discuss.

I find blogging a way to do personal reflection on my practice ... perhaps a little self-indulgent, but it has helped me to think about what I am doing instead of just doing without thinking.

    Blessings,
    Barend

  8. This is great Lyn. I am not the most disciplined blogger but I love it as a platform to share the journey. As teachers the game is changing all the time. For me, sometimes my bogs are the emails that I do not send. Kind of a way to share frustrations as well as revelations.
